Conan O’Brien Announces ‘Conan’ Will Come to an End on June 24

Coco’s bags are packed and he’s ready to go. It’s the end of the line for the late night talk show Conan on TBS, as host Conan O’Brien (Final Space) announced on air Monday night that the curtains will close for good with an hour-long finale on June 24. But there are still exciting things on the horizon for O’Brien, including an upcoming variety style show at HBO Max, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter

As O’Brien works towards ending his twenty eight year run on late night June 24, he is currently the longest-tenured late-night talk show host on TV. He began in 1993 when he took over Late Night on NBC from David Letterman (My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman), and he hasn’t stopped since. He’s had several different network homes, but for the past eleven years it’s been on TBS. And though Conan will end, he’ll continue to do his popular Conan Without Borders travel specials at TBS.

On his show on Monday, O’Brien announced Conan was coming to an end, telling viewers, “We are winding down our TBS show. The plan is to re-emerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with what I think will be my fourth iteration of a program.”

Conan went on to give fond farewell to TBS: “Our last episode here at TBS will be on June 24. Now the plan is we’re going to be showing a lot of clips of our favorite moments from the last eleven years. We’re going to have some special guests, we’re going to create, I think, a really fun special environment, and it’s going to be I think a lot of fun… What I’d like is I’d like these last couple of weeks to be a fond look back at all the absurd madness that my team and I have concocted.”

It had been previously announced in the fall of 2020 that the end of Conan would be coming with this last season. Now, O’Brien will focus working on his upcoming series for HBO Max sometime in the near future. Additionally, he also hosts the popular podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs Friend.”
