Prime Video has announced via a San Diego Comic-Con presentation that the fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, will return for third season, as reported by Deadline. The renewal comes before the second season’s release, which Prime Video ordered in May 2021.
The Wheel of Time is based on the books by Robert Jordan (Conan the Barbarian) and is created and co-written by Rafe Judkins (Hemlock Grove). The series stars Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Daniel Henney (Criminal Minds), Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Zoë Robins (The Shannara Chronicles), Josha Stradowski (Hoogvliegers), and Marcus Rutherford (Bulletproof).
Joining The Wheel of Time in season two are actors Gregg Chillingirian (A Discovery of Witches), Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander), Arnas Fedaravicius (The Last Kingdom), Natasha O’Keeffe (Intergalactic), Guy Roberts (Hanna), Killing Eve’s Ayoola Smart, and BAFTA Award nominee Meera Syal (Back to Life). Dónal Finn will take over the role of Mat Cauthon from Barney Harris, who left the series in 2021, per Deadline. The motivations for Harris’s departure were unclear.
The Wheel of Time is executive produced by Judkins, alongside Uta Briesewitz (In Treatment), Ted Field (Jumanji: The Next Level), Helen Flint (Patrick Melrose), Marigo Kehoe (The Crown), Darren Lemke (Shazam!), Mike Weber (Under the Bed), and Winter Dragon’s Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage. The series received a Hugo Award nomination for its sixth episode, “The Flame of Tar Valon.”
Prime Video has not announced release dates for the second or third seasons of The Wheel of Time. Judkins has confirmed with Deadline that he has an eight-season vision for the series.
