Comic-Con ’23: Justin Roiland Said to be Replaced by Soundalikes for ‘Rick and Morty’ Voice Cast of Season Seven

Following the departure of Justin Roiland (Fish Hooks, Gravity Falls) from both Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites due to alleged domestic violence and other charges, the big question is, ‘who is going to voice Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith?’ Both characters have very unique voices and were both previously voiced by Roiland. However, according to IGN, during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, producer Steve Levy (Community, Little Demon) shared an update on voice recasts for the beloved Adult Swim series.

IGN mentions that producers have confirmed that they are “closing in” on replacements for the cast, especially Morty. Apart from Roiland being let go by Adult Swim, the cast will not be changing drastically.

Levy made a statement at Comic-Con that states, “we are closing in on the end of our process of the recast. It’s going to be great… I’m thoroughly impressed… That’s the thing I don’t want to be overshadowed.” A lot of fans were worried that Rick and Morty will not have the same eclectic voices that Roiland provided. Levy reassured fans saying that “the characters are the same characters.” Levy confirms that the voices of the iconic grandpa and grandson duo will not be entirely uprooted but the new cast of voice actors will have extremely similar voices.

The series isn’t even close to its end, which is awesome for regular viewers, Levy says that the seventh season is “in the can.” The show definitely isn’t slowing down without the help of Roiland either, Levy says that the eighth season has already been entirely written and the ninth season is undergoing the writing process currently.

There will also be no shortage of the beloved characters that pop in and out of the series, Levy says that fans can expect to see “Bird Person, Squanchy… Gene… Rick’s favorite friend… all of your favorites… Gearhead… It wouldn’t be the full crew without Mr. Poopy Butthole. So there’s a lot to look forward to this season, and I promise that Squanchy will Squanch again.” All of these characters are expected to be seen in just the premiere of season seven!

Keep an eye out for season seven of the hilarious Adult Swim series Rick and Morty.
