Showtime’s 1990’s cop drama will return for another season. According to Deadline, City On A Hill has been renewed for a third season. Season two recently wrapped its eight-episode run on May 16.
According to Deadline, the series’ follows stars Aldis Hodge (Leverage, One Night In Miami) and Kevin Bacon (The Following, You Should Have Left) as new and old adages of Boston’s criminal justice system. Hodge’s Decourcy Ward seeks to rid crime and corruption as a by-the-book prosecutor. Meanwhile Bacon’s Jackie Rohr is tenured, yet troubled, FBI agent whose incredulous reputation pits him at odds with just about everyone in his path. The two polar opposites find themselves uncomfortably paired to fight crime when they aren’t fighting each other.
This past season saw the two colleagues’ tenuous camaraderie take on the surge of drug-related crime within Boston’s mostly black Roxbury neighborhood, via Deadline. In addition to preventing gang violence plaguing the streets, Ward and Rohr battle some personal battles. Ward and his attorney wife, Lauren E. Banks’ (In Reality, Canoe Poems) Siobhan, are on opposite sides of the courtroom when a local activists’ children are suspected of a heinous crime. And Rohr’s years of living wild and free culminate in a massive mistake that could cost him his job on the force.
Deadline reports the main cast also includes Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan, Law & Order) as Jackie’s wife, Jenny; Amanda Clayton (If Loving You Is Wrong, Bad Frank) as struggling single-mother, Cathy Ryan; Mark O’Brien (Ready or Not, 61st Street) as junkie informant, Jimmy Ryan; and, Matthew Del Negro (Huge I France, Hot Pursuit) as Officer Chris Caysen. Season two guest stars included Pernell Walker (Pariah, The Deuce), Keiko Elizabeth (The Bachelors, Nerd Herd), Kameron Kierce (Fatal Attraction, The Best of Enemies), Lucia Ryan (The BFG, Bridge of Spies), Shannon Wallace (American Soul, Chicago P.D.), John Doman (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Mystic River) and Michael O’Keefe (Michael Clayton, Caddyshack).
According to Deadline, the series was created by Chuck MacLean (Mongoose, Boston Strangler) with Tom Fontana (St. Elsewhere, Oz) serving as showrunner. Both MacLean and Fontana executive produce the series along with Ben Affleck (Gone Girl, Justice League), Matt Damon (Stillwater, The Martian) and Jennifer Todd (Live By Night, Boiler Room). They are joined by Michael Cuesta (Homeland, L.I.E.) Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers), and Jorge Zamacona (World Gone Wild, Wanted). Co-executive producers include Michele Giordano (The Affair, Smash) as well as Hodge and Bacon.
While MacLean will remain listed as an executive producer on the series, he will not appear in the writer’s room due to allegations of misconduct, according to Deadline. The series is set to resume filming in New York later this year.
