For Lorre, he was thankful to Netflix for creative freedom, something that he could not necessarily do with his other shows due to network restrictions. “I wanted to write about getting older and all that that entails,” Lorre told Variety. “I wanted to write about people losing loved ones and dealing with health issues and grown children. I found this wonderful avenue through Netflix where there were no ratings restrictions and they were totally supportive. I could write without looking over my shoulder.”

The series explores the lives of Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), former actor and current acting coach, and Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin), his agent. They are two aging friends who take on the world that revolves around “staying young.”

Lorre wants no misunderstanding of the Kominsky character. “I didn’t want to make fun of acting. I wanted to tell a story about a man who loves his craft,” Lorre said. “He loves the art of it, and he is a good teacher despite his character flaws, which are many.”

You can watch all eight episodes of The Kominsky Method on Netflix. There is no news as of yet for a second season.
