Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore) is invading the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Deadline, the actor will be starring in the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion.
Secret Invasion is set to follow Nick Fury and Skrull Talos as they face the invasion of Skrulls on Earth that was first introduced into the MCU in Captain Marvel, via Deadline. The shape shifting species was last seen in the end credits scene following WandaVision, when an adult Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris, Dear White People) met with a disguised Skrull woman in Westview’s movie theater. The announced sequel to Captain Marvel, The Marvels, which is slated to release in 2022, will also feature the Skrulls in a large portion of the plot.
According to Variety, the other cast members already attached to the series include Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers). Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), and Kingsley Ben-Adir (High Fidelity). Olivia Coleman (The Crown) is allegedly being considered for another role amongst the already stacked cast list.
According to Deadline, McDonald’s character is set to be a brand-new character that isn’t based on an existing character from the comics. However, like most characters in the MCU, McDonald’s will likely crossover from the series into future films.
The actor, who most recently starred in Hacks, is best known for his role as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, according to Variety. McDonald additionally starred in Leave it to Beaver, Thelma & Louise, Quiz Show, and Harry’s Law.
