Christine Baranski Offers to Portray Betsy DeVos on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Less than a week after Melissa McCarthy’s surprise guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, another well-known Hollywood actress has offered her talents to appear on the show. In an interview with Vanity Fair to promote The Good Fight, Christine Baranski said she is willing to portray Betsy DeVos, the recently confirmed secretary of education for the Trump administration.

“It would seem somewhat logical—we have that strong jawline, don’t we?” Baranski said.

However, she said that’s where the similarities between the two of them end. “I can play people with whom I drastically disagree. The (SNL) sketches have been unbelievable all through the election, and the post-election. So yeah, we could have a revolving door of people playing the cabinet members and all.”

SNL used Kate McKinnon in last week’s episode to portray Betsy DeVos in the McCarthy sketch. So, if McKinnon just wanted to focus on her Kellyanne Conway portrayal, Baranski is ready to step in and fill in.

Baranski’s bosses at The Good Fight, husband-and-wife duo Robert and Michelle King, seem to have given Baranski their blessing, with Robert saying he “can’t wait” to see if the portrayal comes to light and Michelle said that it’s a “smart” idea.

Baranski isn’t the only Hollywood star lobbying to play someone close to President Trump. For the last week, Rosie O’Donnell, a famous foe of Trump’s, has made it clear that she’d be willing to portray Steve Bannon. Deadline has reported that O’Donnell has changed her Twitter profile photo to her dressed up as Bannon. O’Donnell has also gone on the record about spoofing Bannon, saying that “If asked, of course I would.”

So it’s possible that tomorrow’s episode, which has Alec Baldwin as host, could feature O’Donnell as Bannon.
