Chris Messina Joins USA’s 3rd Season of ‘The Sinner’

Small screen vet, Chris Messina, has been tapped to join the growing cast for the USA Network’s The Sinner‘s upcoming third season. The actor is set to join Matt Bomer, who was also recently announced as joining the anthology series as well. Bill Pullman is also set to reprise his role as Detective Harry Ambrose.

Taking over for season 2’s lead (Carrie Coon), Bomer will star as Jamie, a resident of Dorchester and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support after the events of a tragic accident. While Messina will play Nick Haas, Jamie’s college friend who shows up for surprise visit after several years. Pullman’s Ambrose, will be followed as he investigates a car crash that leads to a dangerous and disturbing crime more so than the ones before case of his career.

Season 1’s star, Jessica Biel, continues to executive produce the series alongside Universal Content Productions and her studio-based Iron Ocean banner alongside The Sinner‘s showrunner Derek Simonds.  Charlie Gogolak and Michelle Purple also produce the series, with Adam Bernstein (Fargo, Breaking Bad) directing the third season’s first two episodes. No official word has been released on a premiere date yet.

Despite being known for USA Network’s  procedural drama, White Collar, Bomer currently stars on DC Universe’s Doom Patrol and in a long-running guest role on NBC’s Will and Grace. Other credits include: The Nice Guys, The Magnificent Seven and the Magic Mike film series, Amazon’s The Last Tycoon and FX’s American Horror Story.

Messina’s television credits include: The Mindy Project, The Newsroom and Damages, while he has worked on feature films such as Birds of Prey, The Secrets We Keep, Dark Cargo and Away We Go.

Since its premiere, The Sinner has become one of USA Network’s most critical acclaimed series and is considered as one of its golden standard original series. USA’s other original programming include series Mr. Robot and Suits, which are both bowing out at the end of this year. Series such as Queen of the South, The Purge, Treadstone, Briarpatch, Dare Me, Brave New World and Pearson, will carry on the network’s creative torch.
