After more than a decade on the force, LaRoyce Hawkins (Chicago P.D., Ironheart) is preparing to say goodbye to NBC’s Chicago P.D. According to Variety, Hawkins will depart the long-running police drama during its upcoming 14th season.
The actor has portrayed Officer Kevin Atwater since the series premiered in 2014, making him one of the show’s longest-serving cast members. Details surrounding Atwater’s departure are being kept under wraps.
Variety reports that Hawkins’ exit will take place early in Season 14, though NBC has not revealed how the character will leave the Intelligence Unit. In addition to starring on Chicago P.D., Hawkins has portrayed Atwater in multiple crossover events involving the other One Chicago series, helping establish the character as a familiar face across NBC’s interconnected television universe.
Outside of the franchise, Hawkins has appeared in Ironheart and Power Book IV: Force, continuing to expand his television career while remaining a key member of the Chicago P.D. cast.
The news comes just months after NBC renewed all three One Chicago series. mxdwn previously covered the network’s renewals of Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med, highlighting the franchise’s continued success and strong ratings across both broadcast television and streaming.
That renewal ensured the three dramas would continue as the centerpiece of NBC’s Wednesday night lineup, making Hawkins’ departure one of the biggest cast changes since the shows secured another season. Variety notes that Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. remain major performers for NBC despite their lengthy runs.
The franchise continues to dominate Wednesday nights, and the March 4 crossover event delivered season-high viewership for all three series. Alongside Hawkins, Chicago P.D. stars Jason Beghe (Californication, Thelma & Louise), Patrick John Flueger (The 4400, The Princess Diaries), Marina Squerciati (Gossip Girl, Sparks), Amy Morton (Bluebird, Up in the Air), and Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q, Tatami).
Hawkins’ departure marks the end of an era as the series heads into its fourteenth season and begins its next chapter without one of its original cast members.
