Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit, and the film trilogy Major League) and Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D.) have been recently cast in the upcoming CBS series titled Surveillance. The drama’s pilot is executive produced by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield and The Planet of the Apes film trilogy).
The series has been described as a spy thriller and will follow Maddy (Bush’s character) as the head of communications for the NSA. Based on the series’ synopsis, she will be tasked with choosing between her loyalty in protecting the government’s secrets versus her own. Haysbert will play Barry, the NSA’s deputy director and Maddy’s longtime mentor/father figure.
The upcoming series has also cast, Matthew Modine (Weeds and Stranger Things), Catalina Sandino Moreno (The Affair and The Bridge) and Raphael Acloque (Allied and 24: Legacy) in other supporting or potential lead roles.
Earlier during this year’s pitch season, Survelliance‘s production commitment from CBS was on of its biggest sales in its history. Writer David C. White (Sons of Liberty) will join Reeves for the series’ scrcipt development, while directing duties will be taken on by Patricia Riggen (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) and 20th Century Fox TV, which will co-produce with CBS TV Studios.
CBS and 20th TV have been cited as being excited about their next business venture together and marks the network’s first buy from 20th TV in almost three years, since the 2015-16 development season. It would be the first 20th TV-produced pilot at CBS since Life In Pieces in spring 2015.
