CBS All Access Revamp Brings All-New and Legacy Programming to Catalog

ViacomCBS revealed its plans to expand their streaming service CBS All Access “into diversified super service for the company,” as detailed in their official press release from today. Their plans include expanding their streaming library to over 20,000 movies and TV show episodes in total, drawing from a variety of ViacomCBS-owned networks such as Nickelodeon, BET, and Comedy Central, among others.

The crux of the CBS All Access update is its push for bringing original and legacy programming to its service. This includes the entirety of series such as Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants, BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood, Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show, among several others. In addition, a number of seasons from shows such as VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, Reno 911!Beavis and Butt-head have been added. This is alongside the numerous amount of classic content already on the service, such as Star TrekCheersNCISThe Amazing RaceDanny Phantom, and more. Finally, films such as Charlotte’s Web, Scary Movie, and others have been added, bringing the total amount of movies on the service to over 150.

In terms of all-new programming made for the service, the Spongebob Squarepants spin-off series Kamp Koral is expected to debut on CBS All Access early next year. The show is a prequel, following the main cast of Spongebob as children while at summer camp. In addition, the film Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge on the Run will premiere on the service in early 2021. Later this year, CBS All Access will expand its Star Trek offerings with the new animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and the third season of Star Trek: Discovery being added on August 6th and October 15th, respectively. These join a number of original series already on the service, such as Star Trek: PicardWhy Women Kill, and The Twilight Zone.

Aside from new programming, the service’s interface is being revamped. The revamp brings improved recommendations with curated homepages, new categories, and a new level of personalization. These improvements make it easier and faster to find the content offered on the service.

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting evolution of CBS All Access into the subscription streaming home for ViacomCBS and a preview of what’s to come,” Marc DeBevoise, the President and Chief Executive Officer ViacomCBS Digital and Chief Digital Officer of Viacom CBS, explained in the press release. “By bringing the valuable IP and creative capabilities from across ViacomCBS together in one product, we will deliver to consumers a compelling and differentiated service with something for everyone across news, live sports and on-demand entertainment in every genre.”

The revamp of CBS All Access begins today and is expected to be completed in early 2021. CBS All Access is currently available for $5.99 per month with commercials, or $9.99 per month without commercials.
