The streaming platform CBS All Access has announced the third season premiere date for its original series Star Trek: Discovery, according to Deadline. In a fifteen-second teaser video, the program announced that the new season will air on the streaming service on October 15. Created by the likes of Alex Kurtzman (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Star Trek) and Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, American Gods), the science fiction series debuted in 2017 and has run for a total of two seasons, amassing 29 episodes over this duration of time. The upcoming iteration of the Star Trek spin-off series is set to air thirteen new episodes and will be releasing a new episode each week. Check out the short premiere date announcement video below:
Star Trek: Discovery centers on the exploits of the U.S.S. Discovery crew around a decade prior to the Star Trek television series which ran from 1966 to 1967. The news comes as a relief for many Star Trek fans after the show’s Comic-Con at Home panel featured the cast perform a table read of the season two finale episode entitled “Such Sweet Sorrow.” The show’s cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as Michael Burnham, Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful) as Ash Tyler or Voq, Doug Jones (Falling Skies, The Strain) as Saru, Mary Wiseman (Room 104, Longmire) as Slyvia Tilly, Anthony Rapp (Dazed and Confused) as Paul Stamets, Jason Isaacs (Avatar: The Last Airbender, The OA) as Gabriel Lorca, Wilson Cruz (Rent, My So-Called Life) as Hugh Culber, and Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels, Inhumans) as Captain Christopher Pike.
Star Trek: Discovery’s third season is to follow the aftermath of season two with the crew settling down in an unknown and uncertain world while also attempting the restoration of the Federation. This series is not the only Star Trek content on CBS All Access with the premiere of the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks on August 6 and other series such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Picard.
