There are big changes coming to Supergirl this fall.
We knew season two of the show would be different, especially after CW picked up the series from CBS. Now that Supergirl is part of the CW’s new fall lineup, the series has moved its production to Vancouver since Greg Berlanti’s other superhero shows (Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) are all Canada-based productions.
Not only is the series changing networks and relocating, one of season one’s regular characters is sadly going to have a much shorter arc in season two.
Calista Flockhart, who plays Cat Grant, a.k.a. Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) boss, will be returning for the second season, but not as a series regular. TVGuide.com reports that instead she will be a recurring character, although the exact number of episodes she will appear in has not been announced.
Despite all the changes the show is undergoing, everyone is happy to keep as much of the cast together as possible. “Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”
Flockhart’s shift from series regular to more of a guest star role is due to the production’s shift from Los Angeles to Vancouver. But just because Kara may be losing her boss doesn’t mean she’ll be quitting her day job anytime soon. Ian Gomez (Cougar Town) has signed on to play Snapper Carr, the new editor-in-chief of CatCo magazine.
In addition to a new boss for Kara, Supergirl is expecting to see several new faces in this upcoming season. Linda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the 70’s, will play the United States President, and after alluding to her cousin all throughout the first season, Supergirl will finally meet her cousin, Superman, on the small screen. She may not need man to save her, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have time for a little family reunion. Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) has been cast as the latest incarnation of Clark Kent/Superman on Supergirl.
Production for season two of Supergirl will begin next week, and the new season will premiere on Monday, October 10, on the CW. In the meantime all of Supergirl season one is airing on the CW on Monday nights.
