BOOM! Studios Hires Former Marvel TV Exec Mark Ambrose To Lead Television Division

Former Marvel TV executive Mark Ambrose (The Gifted, Jessica Jones) has joined BOOM! Studios’ (Abbot, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers) new TV division as Senior Vice President, via Deadline. The comic book and graphic novel publisher enlists Ambrose to manage the development of both live-action and animated TV productions. BOOM! recently inked a deal with Netflix, and has a first-look deal with 20th Century Studios to adapt their properties for the screen.

Ambrose oversaw the development of several Marvel series at Netflix, including The Punisher and Jessica Jones, where he served as a co-executive producer, according to Deadline. He also co-produced Marvel’s Runaways at Hulu and The Gifted for Fox and was a studio executive for FX’s Legion. Prior to his tenure with Marvel, he spent 11 years working at 20 Century Fox TV. Beginning as an Assistant, he worked on shows such as Sleepy Hollow and Glee, eventually becoming the Vice President for Drama Development.

“As a comic fan, I’ve watched this company consistently release groundbreaking books from the most highly sought-after writers and artists in the industry,” Ambrose said via Deadline. “I could not be more excited about the opportunity to work with this talented group of people, and to have a chance to collaborate again with the great team at Netflix through our first-look deal.”

According to Deadline, BOOM! announced several projects in the works within the last six months. The company sold graphic novel Snow Blind to Apple TV+ for an adaptation starring and produced by Jake Gyllenhall (Nightcrawler, Spider-Man: Far From Home). At Disney+, they secured R.L. Stine’s (Goosebumps) Just Beyond for an 8-episode straight-to-series order. Outside of TV, the new comic series BRZRKR created by Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix 4) hits shelves in October of this year. And a film adaptation of James Tynion’s (Batman: Detective Comics, Cognetic) graphic novel Memetic is being developed at Lionsgate.

“It is exciting to have a seasoned veteran TV exec from the biggest comic book publisher, Marvel Entertainment, who supervised and launched shows with the biggest streamer, come over to BOOM! to build a deep, engaging slate with his former stomping grounds, Netflix,” said BOOM! Founder and CEO Ross Richie, via Deadline. “This is exactly what we need to get to the next level and strengthen what was already an aggressive translational strategy.
