Bobby Cannavale Comes to ‘Mr. Robot’, B.D. Wong Becomes Regular

Two-time Emmy award winner Bobby Cannavale is taking his talents to USA Network. The Will & Grace and Boardwalk Empire actor is slated to join the cast of Mr. Robot as a series regular in the upcoming third season. B.D. Wong (Law & Order: SVU) will also be rising from a recurring role to a regular feature in the tech centric thriller.

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s entertainment networks president Chris McCumber had high praise for the program’s innovative and compelling nature, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Sam Esmail is a true creative visionary who continues to deliver a series that boldly tackles timely issues and leans into the major headlines of the day. We’re eager to share the next phase of Elliot’s journey with fans this fall.” NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment chief content officer Jeff Wachtel spoke to the addition of Cannavale and the rise of Wong. “Season 3 of Mr. Robot will engage viewers in a whole new way, with Sam and team continuing to find ways to surprise, challenge and delight the audience. And adding Bobby Cannavale and BD Wong to our cast makes one of the tightest acting ensembles even stronger.”

Wong’s role has received a positive response for both his performance and the storylines surrounding the mysterious character.

Adding a power player like Cannavale, who has shined on both the big and small screens, is the right move for Mr. Robot. The show is already a critical darling, largely due to the mesmerizing and immersive character acting of Rami Malek as anxious/depressed hacker Elliot, and its themes will be hammered home by a player with the range of Cannavale. His role remains to be seen, but if anyone can keep viewers transfixed by a heavy hitting actor it’s Esmail.

Mr. Robot Season 3 premieres this October on USA Network. Stay tuned with mxdwn Television for more information.
