‘Big Sky’: A New Thriller Coming to ABC Releases Action Packed Trailer

ABC has a new thriller on the way entitled Big Sky and the TV series has a familiar set up for fans of recent horror films such as Split and The Call. Two seemingly innocent, kind hearted sisters get kidnapped from their car while on a road trip and a chaotic hunt for the perpetrator ensues. ABC released a trailer on Wednesday full of dark roads, bar fights, and car chases via Indiewire

Set in Montana, the show is consumed with small towns on edge as girls continue to disappear from all over. It seems as if there is a serial kidnapper on the loose, and an ex-cop along with two private detectives decide to take up the case. They get led down a rabbit hole in the secluded mountains and wildlife of Montana, where tracking down a potential serial killer proves difficult and dangerous.

The cast includes Ryan Phillipe (Crash) as private detective Cody Hoyt, and Kylie Bunbury (When They See Us) as private detective Cassie Dewell. Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) will portray Cody’s ex-wife, Jenny Hoyt. A former cop, she decides to come along for the ride and help track down the missing girls. The sisters, Grace and Danielle Sullivan, will be portrayed by Jade Pettyjohn (Little Fires Everywhere), and Natalie Alyn Lind (The Gifted).

David E. Kelly (Big Little Lies) is the showrunner of the upcoming television series. In regards to Big Sky airing on network television versus cable, Kelly acknowledged the difference. Indiewire picked up a statement he released Wednesday, saying: “This show lends itself to be a great binging show…The biggest challenge is commercials, I still hate them.” Kelly also said: “We want to compel the audience to come back…The structure of this is we’ll do four or five episode arcs.” In the past, Kelly’s work has been a mixture between working on prestige cable dramas and network television.

Big Sky is based off of the novel The Highway by C.J Box. The television series will be a faithful adaptation as they embrace the Montana landscape, something featured extensively throughout the book. It’s executive produced by Kelly along with Box, Ross Fineman, (Goliath), Matthew Gross (The InBetween), and Paul McGuigan (Emergence). It will premiere November 17 on ABC.
