ATX TV Festival 2024: New Screenings & Panels Include Max’s ‘Industry’ & ‘PLL: Summer School’, ‘Fargo’ And ‘Girls5Eva’ Karaoke

This year’s ATX TV Festival is vastly approaching at the end of May. Yesterday, the annual event for die-hard TV lovers announced a slew of new events including exclusive screenings, industry panels, and creative activations. Season 13 is set to run from May 30 to June 2 in downtown Austin.

The biggest lineup of screenings comes courtesy of HBO and Max, featuring an early view of Industry’s third season, the world premiere of HBO’s Fantasmas, and a screening of Pretty Little Liars reboot spinoff, Summer School.

Industry hails from the dynamic duo of Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, creators, writers, directors, and executive producers of the critically acclaimed drama series. The series follows a group of Gen Z employees of Pierpoint & Co., an investment firm in the UK. Half Succession, half Euphoria, viewers enter this high-pressure world through the eyes of Harper Stern, played by Myha’la Herrold (Black Mirror). Down, Kay, and Herrold will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening. Additional cast will be announced.

Fantasmas is the creative piece from director and star, Julio Torres of Los Espookys fame. Via the press release, the imaginative series “tells the tale of when he lost a golden oyster. The people he encounters as he searches for it and the musings he has along the way become points of departure for little films, as Torres navigates weaving in and out of these introspective, often eerie comedic stories.”

Finally, fans of the melodrama mystery series, Pretty Little Liars, can expect a new spin on the franchise with a screening and Q&A of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. As a follow-up to Original Sin, the new series sees our ‘Liars’ fall under a new villain’s threat during summer school. Cast and creatives joining the panel will be announced at a later date.

The festival is much more than just screenings. An array of panels circumventing a gambit of topics are also featured:

  • FX’s Fargo will hold a screening of season five’s premiere episode and a conversation with creator Noah Hawley (Legion, Alien).
  • Mark Duplass (The Chair, The Morning Show) and Mel Eslyn (Seven Days, Biosphere) of Duplass Brothers Productions will appear at “Adventures in Indie TV,” a discussion on independently made television.
  • Netflix’s new hit, Girls5Eva, hosts a karaoke night courtesy of Universal Studio Group. Creator and executive producer Meredith Scardino (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will be present for a night of songs, photo opps, swag, and more.
  • MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine starring Danny Pino (L&O: SVU, Cold Case) premieres along with a Q&A with creator and EP, Chris Brancato (Godfather of Harlem, Hoodlum). The series tells the story of Roman Compte, manager of the infamous Mutiny Hotel, who played a pivotal role in the cocaine industry of the late 70s and early 80s.
  • RCA presents “The History of TV,” a conversation spanning the medium’s 100-plus-year history. Confirmed panelists include Established Inc.’s President, Tony Bozzini, and Tim Sarnoff, former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Technicolor.
  • “The Art of World-Building” from Sony Pictures Television explores the minds behind some of TV’s most immersive realities including For All Mankind’s costume designer, Esther Marquis, Twisted Metal’s production designer Victoria Paul, and Colin Penman, makeup department head/puppeteer for Gen V.

Previously announced programming includes the 10th Anniversary of Halt and Catch Fire, a live recording of the Trial By Content podcast, “Talk Scary (TV) to Me” panel with horror auteur Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Midnight Club) and actress Kate Siegel (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass), and the annual Pitch Competition Live Finale.
