At Virtual Comic Con, Sean Bean Makes his Villainous Debut in Season 2 Trailer of TNT’s ‘Snowpiercer’

The first look at season two of TNT’s Snowpiercer is here. Debuting during Snowpiercer’s virtual Comic Con panel on Thursday, the trailer features Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings) as he makes his debut as Mr. Wilford, sporting extravagant fur coats and evil grins. In complete 180 from past roles such as the heroic Ned Stark on Game of Thrones, Bean will now play a villainous, new character in the apocalyptic thriller’s second season via Entertainment Weekly

Snowpiercer aired its first season on TNT during the summer of 2020 and consisted of ten episodes. Its cast is filled with household names, including Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind), Tony Award winner Daveed Digs (Blindspotting), Rowan Blanchard (The Goldbergs), and now Bean. In Snowpiercer, the future has never looked bleaker as the world has become frozen and cold. The humans who managed to survive mother nature’s harsh conditions live on a train that travels around the world without any signs of stopping.

An adaptation of the film Snowpiercer, it was directed by recent Academy Award winner Bong Joon-Ho (Parasite). Made in 2013, the film starred Chis Evans (Captain America), Tilda Swinton (Okja), Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures), and Ed Harris (Westworld)

The comic con panel on Thursday consisted of cast members Connelly, Bean, Blanchard, and Diggs as they all zoomed in from various locations to discuss what’s in store for season 2. The showrunner Graeme Manson (Orphan Black) was there as well. During the panel, there was much focus and discussion on Bean as he plays a new, complex character in the upcoming season.

During the panel, Bean gave a sneak peak for what’s to come in regards to his character Mr. Wilford. Conflict arrises when he and Andre Layton, portrayed by Diggs, compete for power amongst the train. The season 2 trailer depicts them coming to an inevitable clash as they both have different viewpoints on how to lead the various passengers forward.

When asked about why the role appealed to him, Bean told the panel, “I just thought that the character was so attractive to me because he was so rich and textured, and fun to be with. A fun guy to be with. Very smart, a lot of anger.” Bean was also asked what keeps driving Mr. Wilford forward with all his malicious intent. He answered, “He enjoys, you know, this game playing. He’s always got a plan B and a plan C…He believes totally in authoritarian rules.”

Fans will have to be patient though, as the second season of Snowpiercer will not premiere until January 25, 2021. In the meantime, take a look at the first trailer for season 2 below:
