Ashton Kutcher announced via Twitter that his latest series The Ranch will be coming to an end. According to Entertainment Weekly, the series will end in 2020 with its fourth season. The Ranch was not only the first comedy series to be produced by Netflix, but also the first multi-camera series to have a 20-episode season that was split into two half-seasons.
Kutcher also confirmed in his tweet that there are still 20 episodes left: “@theranchnetflix is coming to an end, but not just yet. We’re excited to bring you the final 20 episodes — 10 streaming later this year (2019) on @netflix, and then 10 more in 2020. Stay tuned!”
Kutcher has starred in and executive produced The Ranch since 2016. Despite Kutcher’s attempt to reassure fans, some could not cope with the loss of the show. “Canceling my @netflix subscription, because Netflix canceled The Ranch,” one fan had tweeted.
The reasons for this cancellation have not been confirmed. However, it has been conjectured that it is ending due to the controversy back in 2018 when Danny Masterson, who plays Rooster on the series, was faced with several allegations concerning sexual assault. As result of this, Masterson was fired and replaced by Dax Shepard.
Another possible reason for the cancellation could be due to Kutcher’s current court appearance. Kutcher has recently been involved in a murder case. Kutcher allegedly had date with murder victim, Ashley Ellerin, on Feb. 21, 2001. When she did not answer the door, Kutcher had thought she had stood him up. Suspect Michael Gargiulo allegedly had murdered Ellerin not long before Kutcher had arrived. Kutcher claimed he had been worried after finding out about Ellerin’s murder. “I remember the next day after I heard about what happened, I went to the detectives and said, ‘My fingerprints are on the door,'” said Kutcher in his testimony. “I was freaking out.”
Regardless of the reasons behind the cancellation, season 4 (parts 7 and 8) will air later this year.
