Netflix’s ‘Lucifer’ Gets Renewed For A Fifth & Final Season

The Tom Ellis helmed and Fox-turned-Netflix dramedy, Lucifer, has officially been renewed for its fifth and final season — which just recently had its fourth season debut on the streaming giant this past May 8th. So far the series’ Season 5 outing, hasn’t revealed an episode count yet.

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms,” a statement made by co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich confirmed. “Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”

Henderson further commented, that series’ “fan support is super-important, and in particular [the first] month is going to be crucial towards whether or not we get a Season 5, because they [at Netflix] are paying attention. So far, the fan support has been amazing — everything you could ask for.”

“I mean, holy crap. It’s just been great,” Modrovich added in response. “I don’t know if I could ever handle it when bad reviews came or something, because I feel so spoiled and grateful right now.”

After renewing the series for a third season in February 2017, the Fox network announced it was dropping the series after three years. Right before the streaming giant decided to pick up Lucifer from Warner Bros. TV following a fan directed #SaveLucifer campaign on social media channels.

Loosely based on comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman for DC’s Vertigo Imprint in partnership with Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, the series’ Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger with Detective Chloe Decker eventually realizing that Lucifer is indeed the devil himself, after his devil face was revealed to her for the first time.

Season 4 followed the titular character attempting to deal with the revelation, despite Eve creating new challenges for the fallen angel. The series season 4 finale, saw Lucifer return to rule Hell after a heated battle with demons and Chloe confessing her love for the charming devil.

The showrunner duo also revealed that they have already planned Season 5’s first episode, which they have “literally known since they began Season 4. Moldrovich further adding: “We also have one other, really fun toy to play with, that we know is going to be a big guiding factor in Season 5, so we’re excited about that, too.”
