With summer in full swing, Apple TV+ has given viewers a taste for what’s to come in the upcoming months. Releasing a trailer filled with never before seen footage of various new and returning series, it includes a first look at Will Ferrell (Anchorman) and Paul Rudd (Living With Yourself) in the upcoming original series The Shrink Next Door, via Indiewire.
Based upon true events detailed in the 2019 true crime Wonder podcast “The Shrink Next Door,” the upcoming Apple original series will detail the crazy relationship between the psychiatrist Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, and his patient, Martin “Marty” Markowtiz. Rudd will be playing the maniacal Ike, and Ferrell will be portraying Marty. Also appearing in the first footage released from the series is Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), who will be portraying Marty’s sister. As Ike begins to see Marty, he slowly begins to take over his life, family business, and even moves into his house. His sister become’s one of the few who begins to see what Ike ii doing, and begins to fight back to save her brother.
Rudd and Ferrell are almost unrecognizable as Ike and Marty, with big beards and even bigger glasses This is one of several collaborations between the pair, as they’ve co-starred in the films Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and the sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. The series will be written by Georgia Pritchett (Succession) and directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick). There has been no premiere date announced as of yet, but rest assured it will be coming soon sometime this summer.
Alongside the first footage of The Shrink Next Door, the Apple TV+ summer preview offered first looks at various other series as well. It featured Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) starring in the new comedy series Mr. Corman, portraying a public school school teacher. It also offered a quick glance at the new comedy series SCHMIGADOON! featuring Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) and Keegan-Michael Key (Friends from College). Other new Apple original series that can be glimpsed throughout the summer preview includes the science fiction series Foundation and the period piece Physical starring Rose Byrne (Neighbors).
In addition to new series, there are also several returning this summer as well. Jennifer Aniston (Friends) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies) are prominently featured within the teaser, with a first look at them in the second season of the drama The Morning Show. First looks at other returning series include Ted Lasso, See starring Jason Mamoa (Aquaman) and Mythic Quest with Rob McElhenney (Always Sunny in Philiadalphea).
