Apple TV has released the official trailer for the fourth season of its Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso, giving fans first look at the series before it returns on Aug. 5. According to an Apple TV press release, the new 10-episode season follows Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live, We’re the Millers), as he returns to Richmond for what the streamer calls his biggest challenge yet.
This time, Ted takes over as coach of a second-division women’s football team, and the season follows him and his players as they learn to take chances and embrace the unexpected. The trailer arrives shortly after mxdwn covered another high-profile appearance by the character.
Earlier this month, Sudeikis reprised Ted Lasso during the FIFA World Cup final halftime show, where he appeared alongside Brendan Hunt (We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses 2) in character as Coach Beard to introduce Justin Bieber’s performance. The surprise cameo served as an early promotion for the new season and reminded audiences that the optimistic coach would soon be returning to Apple TV.
Season four reunites several returning cast members, including Hannah Waddingham (Game of Thrones, The Fall Guy), Juno Temple (Fargo, Atonement), Brett Goldstein (Shrinking, Thor: Love and Thunder), and Jeremy Swift (Downton Abbey, Mary Poppins Returns). The new season also introduces Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education, The Decameron), Jude Mack (Back in Action, The Sandman), Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones, Andor), Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane, The Capture), and Grant Feely (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Curb Your Enthusiasm).
Sudeikis also executive produces the series alongside Hunt. Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This, Modern Family) joins season four as an executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV. The press release also highlighted the show’s continued success since its debut. The streamer noted that Ted Lasso became the most Emmy-nominated comedy series for its first season before earning back-to-back Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series with its first two seasons.
Season four premieres globally on Aug. 5 with one episode, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through Oct. 7. The first three seasons of Ted Lasso are currently streaming on Apple TV.
