‘Andor:’ Stellan Skarsgard Reportedly Confirms Second Season of Star Wars Series Ahead of Premiere

With the finale of Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett premiering tomorrow, news about another Lucasfilm series made headlines this weekend. According to Comicbook.com, the Rogue One spinoff series, Andor, has reportedly been renewed for second season before its official debut. Series co-star Stellan Skarsgard (Chernobyl) detailed the news in an interview with Swedish publication, Dagens Nyheter

The Dune co-star, whose role in Andor has yet to be revealed, discussed the filming timeline of the alleged second season.

“We start with [filming Dune: Part Two] in July. And then in the autumn, it’s time for the second season of the Star Wars series Andor,” Skarsgård said via Dagens Nyheter. “I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time so that it does not take too long between season one and season two,” the actor stated. The series starring Diego Luna (The Book of Life, Narcos: Mexico) is set to premiere sometime later this year.

Andor will follow Luna’s Cassian Andor five years prior to the events of Rogue One amidst the Age of Rebellion, according to Comicbook.com. Described as a “rousing spy thriller,” the series will also star Adria Arjona (6 Underground, Morbius), Robert Emms (Atlantis, Apostasy), Denise Gough (Monday, Colette) Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Enola Holmes), and Kyle Soller (The Keeping Room, Poldark). While many of the casts’ roles are still a tight-lipped secret, they will be joined by some familiar faces from the movie. Both Genevieve O’Reilly (The Dry) and Forest Whitaker (Black Panther) will reprise their Rogue One roles as Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera, respectively. And fellow Disney+ series star, Ben Mendelsohn (Secret Invasion, Bloodline) is rumored to return as Imperial Director Orson Krennic.

This news adds more fervor to an already full rollout for Lucasfilm content on the Disney streamer. According to Comicbook.com, 2022 will also see Ewan McGregor (Halston, Doctor Sleep) return in Obi-Wan Kenobiand Pedro Pascal resumes his role in the third season of The Mandalorian. Fans have enjoyed – more or less – the escapades of Bobba Fett since the series premiered on December 29, 2021.

Comicbook.com reports Andor is set for 12 episodes as confirmed by Lucasfilm President and producer, Kathleen Kennedy (Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). However, it is unclear if those 12 entries could possibly be split into two six-episode seasons.
