On the Sex and the City spinoff series And Just Like That… at Max, Sara Ramirez‘s (Grey’s Anatomy, Madam Secretary) tenure has come to an end. They played Che Davis, a nonbinary stand-up comedian.
Che Diaz, played by Ramirez and Cynthia Nixon’s (Sex and the City, The Gilded Age) Miranda Hobbs had parted ways permanently by the end of season two, and both had moved on to pursue new romantic endeavors. Deadline was informed last month by a production-related source that Che’s story had come to an end and that Ramirez, would not be returning for season three.
Given Che’s close friendship with Sarah Jessica Parker’s (Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Hocus Pocus) Carrie Bradshaw, Deadline reports that they may actually appear together in the future. Max declined to comment.
Ramirez’s pro-Palestine social media posts were allegedly the reason behind Che’s elimination earlier this year, according to the Daily Mail, but sources later told Deadline that the claim was untrue. A day later, Ramirez shared an Instagram post that appeared to be a reaction to the news: “Don’t let the tabloids distract you from what’s happening in Gaza. Really nice try, though.”
During the two seasons that Ramirez starred in And Just Like That… their character assisted Carrie in her transition from newspaper columnist to podcaster offering sex advice. Che meets Miranda through Carrie, and they click right away. Miranda and David Eigenberg’s (Chicago Fire, Chicago Med) Steve separated and eventually got divorced.
In season two, Miranda left her past behind to follow Che to Los Angeles, where they shot a pilot for a show they planned to develop, with Tony Danza (Who’s the Boss?, Power Book III: Raising Kanan) playing their father. After that failed, the couple moved back east, and their relationship broke down. After losing their job, Che managed to find assistance at a veterinary clinic, where they met a new person and concluded their story.
Deadline claims that even though Ramirez and Nixon’s characters didn’t have a committed romantic relationship, they are still close friends. The former posted pictures of Nixon on Instagram on Sunday night. Nixon is currently performing off Broadway in Jordan Seavey’s (Whatever This Is.) The Seven Year Disappear, which is directed by Scott Elliott (A Map of the World, Charlie Rose).
