Variety reported earlier this week that comedian, actress and production company owner, Amy Poehler has signed a new deal with NBCUniversal to continue their partnership for the foreseeable future with her production company Paper Kite.
Included in the partnership with Poehler is the agreement to give The Baby, a scripted comedy series, a commitment to at least make a pilot. The Baby, starring Seann William Scott (The Rundown, American Pie), will be executive produced by series writer Craig DiGregorio, Poehler, Dave Becky, Nick Frenkel and Paper Kite’s Brooke Posch. Scott will also be assisting in production.
Aside from The Baby, Paper Kite will also be required to produce new, scripted and unscripted programs for both Universal Television and the newly created Universal Alternative Studio.
When speaking of the new deal between NBC alum Poehler and the network, NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt had this to say,
“Amy has been at the very top of our roster of producers at Universal Television for some time now and we’re so happy to renew and expand our relationship with her for our two studios. For many years she’s been part of the NBCU family, first with ‘Saturday Night Live’ and then, of course, with the stellar ‘Parks and Recreation,’ so it only seems fitting that she remain with the company. We look forward to a variety of projects from her for NBC and other networks as she extends her creative vision into more producing and directing.”
However, NBCU isn’t the only company connected with Poehler’s Paper Kite; Comedy Central’s Broad City and Hulu’s Difficult People are also produced by the company. The deal with NBCU however is very significant for Paper Kite as it is one of the first deals made after the reorganization that took place when Pearlena Igbokwe took over as president and Meredith Ahr became the president of NBC’s Alternative Studio.
Speaking of Poehler, president of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke, had this to say, “Amy is one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking voices in comedy and we’re very excited to work with her on ‘The Baby’ and turn it into a great comedy for NBC.”
The Baby was an idea thought up by Scott and Poehler about a young man (Scott) being “the baby” of an all female family. It just so happens that this family is also involved in organized crime. Scott being the baby and only boy of the family endures a lot of sibling bullying from his seven older sisters.
There is no official word yet as to when we can expect this new comedy but with Poehler at the helm and Scott being surrounded by women, it’s sure to induce a few chuckles.
