An animated series based on the popular multiplayer game, Among Us, is in production. According to Variety, Innersloth, the gaming studio behind the popular game, is partnering with CBS Eye Animation to produce the series.
Variety reports the official logline is based on the gameplay: “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
The series is being created by Owen Dennis ( Infinity Train, Regular Show) as part of his overall deal with CBS, via Variety. Dennis will also serve as an executive producer. Titmouse is attached as the animation studio for the series. Titmouse is known for several acclaimed animated series such as AMC’s Pantheon and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
According to Variety, the video game launched in 2018 but did not become a hit until two years later during the COVID pandemic. By October 2020, Among Us was the #1 downloaded game on Google Play and iOS. It soon garnered 500 million monthly active users. Its streaming views ballooned on YouTube and Twitch with 4 and 1.22 billion views, respectively.
Joining Dennis on the creative team are Titmouse’s Ben Kalina (Big Mouth, Scavengers Reign), Chris Pryonski (Motor City, Her), Shannon Pryonski (The Venture Bros., Nico and the Sword of Light), and Antonio Canobbio (Superheroes, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs). Innerlsoth will have Carl Neisser (20th Century Women), Marcus Bromander (Fleeing the Complex, The Herny Stickmin Collection), and Forest Willard join as executive producers.
Among Us joins an array of video games receiving the animated series treatment. Netflix has found great success adapting Konami’s Castlevania. The first series ran for four seasons and sequel series, Castlevania: Nocturne, premiered this year earning a second season renewal. Netflix also has the second season of Arcane coming in 2024.
There is no network or streaming platform connected with the series at this time.
