The next season of American Horror Story finally has some character descriptions after months of exciting casting announcements.
American Horror Story: Hotel is set to premiere in October on FX this year. We reported on the first teaser for the season here. Perhaps the biggest casting news coming from this upcoming season was that Lady Gaga was joining the show. The question on every fan’s mind since then was who exactly she would be playing. Well now all the major characters have been revealed thanks to the TCA FX panel.
Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, along with cast members, revealed the information about the new season as reported on by Variety. The setting will be a hotel, of course, in Los Angeles. The season theme was inspired by surveillance video from a Los Angeles hotel several years ago that sparked conspiracy theories surrounding a girl who disappeared in the hotel’s elevator.
AHS alum Sarah Paulson is set to play an addict named Sally. “I think she’s sexy. She’s a drug addict — not that drug addicts are sexy, but this girl happened to be quite sexy,” Paulson said. “She’s unlike anything i’ve done on the show. Really, unlike anything I’ve done anywhere.” Sally hates Kathy Bates character.
Lady Gaga will play Elizabeth a wealthy social doyenne. Murphy added that she is, “consumed with art and fashion and people, and she has a nefarious plan that is revealed in the first episode.” Murphy was asked about LGBT storylines for the season and also noted that Elizabeth has relationships with characters played by Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, and Cheyenne Jackson.
Kathy Bates will play Iris. Iris runs the hotel and has relationships with Matt Bomer and Wes Bentley. Bomer will play Donovan. “I’m closely associated with Ms. Gaga, Ms. Bates and Mr. Wittrock. He has very interesting relationships with lady folk in his life, and I’ll just leave it at that,” Bomer said.
Angela Bassett plays a character who is a fabulous actress who doesn’t live at the hotel but will frequently visit. She is in a strong relationship with Gaga’s character. “I’ll probably be at odds with Donovan [Bomer] — who gets the girl?” Bassett adds about her part.
Finn Wittrock plays a male model who will interact with Gaga’s character a lot. Chloe Sevigny will play Wes Bentley’s wife and is also a mother and a doctor. Bentley is playing a detective who comes to the hotel after grisly murders. Cheyenne Jackson is playing Drake. “He’s trying to creatively reestablish himself and moves from New York to LA. He’s a father and a little desperate.”
Denis O’Hare will play a movie icon Liz Taylor. “I’m not actually playing Elizabeth Taylor, but I’m playing a person who is inspired by the awesomeness of things like Butterfield 8 and Cleopatra and eye makeup like that,” O’Hare said. “And I shaved my head for the part and other body parts. I work in the hotel, I work with Kathy, and I work in the bar.”
American Horror Story: Hotel checks into FX on October 7.
