The Walking Dead spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is returning for season two in 2025, according to coverage from Comicbook.com. The AMC series promises to follow where Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead, The Boy), and Negan, played by Jeffery Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead, Watchmen), journey left off in season one, navigating their rivalry within the new terrain and politics of post-apocalyptic Manhattan, New York.
Season two’s newest teaser trailer revealed a behind-the-scenes look at clips from production, including high-level stunts, gruesome zombie costuming and actors ready to face their place in the apocalypse.
Via Comicbook.com, the bad blood between Maggie and Negan will continue through season two following a gang war within the city, with the official synopsis stating, “In the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined,” contributing to the unresolved tension lingering between the characters.
As per a mxdwn article, the premise of The Walking Dead: Dead City’s first season surprised fans, considering Morgan’s character, Negan, brutally murders Cohan’s onscreen husband in season seven of The Walking Dead. But Showrunner Eli Jorné (Heels, Wilfred) commented at a panel at WonderCon that this new spinoff is compelling for reasons following the characters loss, grief, and trauma.
Jorné at the panel asked viewers to consider, “How does Maggie look in Negan’s face every day and remember what he did to the love of her life? For anybody who’s watched The Walking Dead all these years and connected to those characters, we’re continuing the story, growing it, evolving it, and deepening it in a whole new landscape,” via mxdwn.
Comicbook.com confirms that Jorné will return as showrunner and executive producer for season two. Returning cast for the new season includes Cohan, Morgan, Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon (NCSI: Hawai’i, Show Me More), Logan Kim (Kung Fu Panda 4, Home Movie: The Princess Bride), Željko Ivanek (Argo, Seven Psychopaths), Lisa Emery (Ozark, Admission) and Gaius Charles (The Wonder Years, Alice), as well as newest member Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Bad Blood).
