Amazon’s ‘Good Omens’ Renewed For Second Season

The unlikely allies of Heaven and Hell will return in Amazon’s Good Omens with a second season, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe six-part fantasy comedy is based on the 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett (The Colour of Magic) and Neil Gaiman (Coraline) titled Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter.

The series’ debut season followed angel Aziraphale, played by Michael Sheen (Underworld) and demon Crowley, played by David Tennant (Doctor Who) as they join forces to stop the approaching Armageddon by finding the missing Antichrist, who has taken form in an unaware 11-year-old boy. The upcoming season will explore the relationship between the two main characters, after having lived on Earth since its origins and having now stopped the Apocalypse.

While the series will reportedly stray from the source material, Gaiman still exhibits excitement over his book becoming a reality. “It’s 31 years since Good Omens was published, which means it’s 32 years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention, and plotted the sequel,” said Gaiman. “I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens – that’s where our angels came from. Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there,” via The Hollywood Reporter

Good Omens is slated to begin filming in Scotland later in the year and will premiere on Amazon Prime soon after. However, it will not air on BBC following news that the network is no longer a part of the series.
