Amazon Prime to Stream ‘Fleabag’ Play for Charity

Amazon’s Emmy Award-Winning series Fleabag will return to its theatre roots on Friday, April 10th to raise money for coronavirus and the people that have been affected by this, according to Variety. Amid the coronavirus outbreak, numerous television programs have had to halt production for on-going and upcoming seasons. From the play version of Fleabag, the proceeds raised will be sent to charities that include the National Emergencies Trust, Acting for Others, NHS  Charities, and U.K. freelancer theatre workers, in addition to unannounced U.S. charities. The play will be available on Amazon on Friday for 48 hours in addition to being available on Soho Theatre On Demand site where it will cost $5.00 USD for the next two weeks.

The successful Amazon series Fleabag was designed as a one-woman play to be performed by its creator and star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Broadchurch and Killing Eve). The play and series follow the life of a confused free-spirit Fleabag who lives a sexually active life in London. The series has gone on to win Emmy Awards for Lead Actress (Waller-Bridge), Directing (Harry Bradbeer), and Writing (Waller-Bridge). Additionally, Fleabag won 2020’s Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Waller-Bridge. The series’ cast includes Waller-Bridge as Fleabag, Sian Clifford (Vanity Fair) as Fleabag’s sister Claire, Olivia Colman (Broadchurch and The Crown) as Fleabag’s godmother, and Andrew Scott (Sherlock) as a local priest. The Amazon adaptation has released twelve episodes over two seasons.

Currently, Fleabag has not announced a season three and fans are expecting this upcoming one-woman play to act as its replacement.
