Amazon’s star-studded anthology series, Modern Love, has set its cast for the second season, according to Deadline. The half-hour episodic rom-com explores the real-life stories from the popular New York Times column of the same name.
“We’re so excited to bring a second season of this series to life, and give an opportunity to really shine a light on what matters most,” series creator John Carney (Sing Street, Once) said via Deadline. “With so much uncertainty in our current world, these stories bring truth and love to people everywhere, and I’m so appreciative to be part of making that happen,” Carney said via Deadline.
According to Deadline, the extensive season two cast includes fresh faces as well as acting veterans. The season has enlisted Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound, Four Brothers), Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback (Project Power, The Deuce), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Eternals), Grace Edwards (Odds Are, Schooled), Susan Blackwell (Master of None, Margin Call) and Love Life’s Zoe Chao (Strangers, Downhill).
The cast continues with Gbenga Akinnagbe (Evil, The Taking of Pelham 123), Tom Burke (Only God Forgives, Mank), Maria Dizzia (While We’re Young, Rachel Getting Married), Zane Pais (Room 104, Margot at the Wedding), Isaac Powell (Dear Evan Hansen, Murphy Brown), and Marquis Rodriguez (Saturday Chruch, When They See Us).
These members are joined by the likes of Minnie Driver (Gross Pointe Blank, Sleepers), Flacks’s Anna Pacquin (X-Men, True Blood), Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter, Murder on the Orient Express), Milan Ray (Charm City Kings, Boomerang), Don Wycherley (The Running Mate, Michael Collins), Kathryn Gallagher (The Flash, Thanks for Sharing), and James Sully (Straight Up, 911).
The cast is finally rounded out with Lulu Wilson (Annabelle: Creation, Becky), Telci Huynh (Reverie, God Friended Me), Nikki M. James (The Good Fight, Farway Eyes), Jeena Yi (Manifest, Succession), Zuzanna Szadkowski (Gossip Girl, American Assassin), Larry Owens (Search Party, Dash & Lily), Ben Rappaport (For the People, Mr. Robot), Jack Reynor (Midsommar, Free Fire), and Miranda Richardson (Girlfriends, Good Omens).
According to Deadline, Carney is showrunner, writer, executive producer, and director for the series. Additional directors include John Crowley (Brooklyn, The Goldfinch), Marta Cunningham (Valentine Road, Dancing at the Blue Iguana), Jesse Peretz (Juliet, Naked, Our Idiot Brother), actor Andrew Rannells (The Boys in the Band, Black Monday), and co-directors Celine Held (Caroline, Lockdown) and Logan George (Mouse, Topside). Rannell’s is set to direct an episode based on an op-ed he submitted for The New York Times column.
Todd Hoffman (Insatiable, The Mule), Trish Hoffmann (Notorious, The New World), and Anthony Bergman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Foxcatcher) will executive produce with Carney, according to Deadline. They are joined by The New York Times’ Caitlin Roper (The 1619 Project, The Jungle Prince of Delhi), Choire Sicha (Gawker, The Awl), and “Modern Love” column editor Daniel Jones (Alone, What Does Modern Love Mean in a Pandemic). Sean Fogel (Across Grace Alley) will also produce the show.
According to Deadline, the second season will premiere sometime later this year. Filmed throughout New York and Dublin, Ireland, the show is produced by Amazon Studios, Storied Media Group, Likely Story, and The New York Times.
