British drama television just got some exciting news. Alistair Petrie (Utopia, Sex Education), among others, has just been confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming BBC drama series The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies, according to Variety. The series, set to be produced by Sister for BBC One, is also under executive production by Lydia Hampson (Fleabag) and Naomi de Pear (The Power).

The show aims to be a breath of fresh air for the BBC drama catalog in terms of its output in recent years. “This is the story of two very different women and the conman they have in common; a dark, funny, and unpredictable thriller about three remarkable characters trapped in a triangle of epic proportions,” according to the series description on the Sister site.

Penelope Skinner (Meek) and Ginny Skinner, co-creators and show writers in addition to also producing for Sister, shared their excitement for the series’ development, saying in a statement from the ‘Sister’ site that “We couldn’t be more delighted that, thanks to Sister’s expert support and encouragement, this project has attracted such a talented group of collaborators to bring it to fruition. With Robbie McKillop (Clique) and Nicole Charles’ insightful and creative direction along with an absolute dream cast, including stars like Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies), Rebekah Staton (Raised by Wolves), and Alistair Petrie, we are hugely proud that this show has found a home at the BBC. ”

Production for the series is currently underway and will be internationally distributed by BBC Studios.
