Alan Tudyk Confirms He Won’t Be in Season One of Disney+ ‘Rogue One’ Series ‘Andor’

Alan Tudyk (Dogeball) has confirmed he will not be in the first season of the Disney+ Rogue One spin-off series Andor. Voicing the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO in the 2016 film Rogue One, he confirmed to Collider that he won’t be in season one, but did not rule out future appearances.

A prequel film, Rogue One chronicles the events that lead up to the opening scene in the original 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope. The film starred Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) as Jyn, Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico) as Rebel pilot Cassian Andor, and Tudyk as Andor’s sidekick, K-2SO. A dynamic duo, it was expected that the two would take center stage in the upcoming spin-off series. But, when behind the scenes footage was released and Tudyk was nowhere to be found, fans became suspicious that he would not be reprising his role.

In an interview with Collider on Wednesday, Tudyk confirmed he won’t be in season one of Andor, saying: “They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there.” He also hinted that the series creator Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton), has a plan for K-2SO in the future: “I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season.”

Along with Luna reprising his role, the series will also feature Stellan Skarsgard (Mama Mia!), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), Denise Gough (The Kid Who Would be King), and Adria Arjona (Good Omens)

Though Tudyk will not be appearing in the series Andor for the foreseeable future it doesn’t mean he’s not busy. He stars as an alien undercover in the upcoming SyFy comedy series Resident Alien premiering this Friday, January 29.
