ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) unveiled its new slate of series and TV movies at a virtual NATPE event Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Among the new series announced are Electric Years, an action-adventure heist show set in 1968 and spanning Europe during continent-wide student revolution, and Dr. Ballí, a docuseries about Alfred Ballí, a doctor-turned-murderer from Monterrey, Mexico, whose life inspired the creation of Hannibal Lecter, according to Variety.
In addition to the new content announced by VIS, it was also announced that Se Rentan Cuartos, VIS’s Mexican comedy on Comedy Central, had been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline.
J.C. Acosta, president of VIS and Networks Americas, said this new content showcases the importance of stories the world over.
“This slate represents the vast depth and breadth of global stories and voices that represent a compelling offering to our partners and audiences,” Acosta said, according to Variety. “We continue to partner with the most diverse content creators across the globe and cannot wait to bring these stories to life.”
Here is the rest of the new content announced Thursday:
- Artemisia: The already-announced Artemisia, which is written by Veronica Alexander of Tin Star, is about famous Italian painter, Artemisia Gentileschi.
- The Gold: a true-crime drama about “one of Britain’s most notorious criminal investigations,” according to Variety. The show is the product of Neil Forsyth, writer of BBC series Guilt and Eric, Ernie and Me.
- The Gypsy Bride: The already announced The Gypsy Bride, based on the novel La Novia Gitana by Carmen Mola, is about a woman investigating a murder within a gypsy community.
- A Very Kally’s Birthday (working title): A TV movie, which is a spinoff of telenovela Kally’s Mashup will be written by Peter Barsocchini (High School Musical) and Adam Anders (Glee), who co-created the telenovela.
- Adriano the Emperor: a documentary centered around the life of Brazilian soccer star Adriano Ribeiro.
- A Woman in Black Boots: a documentary, directed by Evarardo González (Devil’s Freedom) about an Israeli military-led intelligence operation in Mexico City shortly after a 2017 earthquake.
- 38 Stars: a documentary about the largest women’s jailbreak in Uruguayan history, to be directed by Lorena Muñoz (Gilda) and is based on the novel Operación Star by Josefina Licitra.
There were also three kids shows at the presentation, previously announced Gloria Wants to Know It All, as well as two new shows, Marcelo, Martelo, Marmelo, an adaptation of a popular children’s book franchise in Brazil, and Deer Squad 1 & 2, Nickelodeon International’s first Chinese original, which is a rescue series for pre-schoolers, according to Variety.
