According to Deadline, at this year’s New York Comic Con, Adult Swim delivered exciting news for fans of the wildly popular animated series Rick and Morty. The network officially renewed the series for two additional seasons, securing new episodes until at least 2029. The announcement during the show’s panel sent waves of excitement through the fanbase, promising even more of the chaotic, interdimensional adventures that have made the show a hit. Attendees at the panel were also treated to an exclusive first-look teaser from a season eight episode set to premiere in 2025.
As mentioned by Deadline’s recent report, Rick and Morty, created by Justin Roiland (Fish Hooks, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time) and Dan Harmon (Community, Strange Planet, Acceptable TV), has been a cornerstone of Adult Swim’s lineup since its debut. The show follows the deranged genius Rick Sanchez, who drags his hesitant grandson Morty into dangerous and often absurd adventures across multiple universes. Since its launch, the series has become a cultural phenomenon, with its sharp humor, complex storytelling and memorable characters.
Now heading into season eight, the voice cast will continue to see Ian Cardoni (Clear History, The Unwanted Gift, Teenage Christ) as Rick and Harry Belden (Christmas Again, Joe Pera Talks With You) as Morty, following Roiland’s exit from the show. As mentioned by Deadline, the core cast still includes Chris Parnell (Fallout, Archer, Family Guy), Spencer Grammer (Greek, Beyond Paradise, Roommate Wanted), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs, The Wrong Missy, Paradise PD), and Dan Harmon (Strange Planet, Community, Krapopolis). Despite the changes, the show has maintained its status as a juggernaut in adult animation. According to Adult Swim, Rick and Morty was the top-rated comedy on cable during seasons three through six, further solidifying its place in television history. The series has also won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program.
During the panel, Harmon expressed his enthusiasm for the show’s future, “Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty. Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.” Fellow executive producer Scott Marder (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Mick, Unsupervised) echoed these sentiments, reflecting on the journey since season four, “Getting to go beyond Season 10 is such a gift I can’t wait to give our fans. Rick and Morty – a hundred years – forever!”
With new episodes now guaranteed through 2029, fans of the show can rest easy knowing that Rick and Morty’s chaotic adventures will continue to unfold for years to come.
