Adam Driver and Halsey Expected to Kick Off First ‘SNL’ Episode for 2020 Year

It was recently announced that actor Adam Driver is expected to host the first SNL episode of 2020 year with Halsey to be there as the show’s musical guest. The duo is expected to be on the long running NBC program with the new episode set to return on January 25th, 2020 on the NBC Network.

Adam Driver who plays Ben Solo AKA Kylo Ren is fresh off the red carpet from promoting the last installment of the new highly anticipated Star Wars film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which just finished its opening first weekend this past weekend. Driver has been hard at work with another film alongside co-star Scarlett Johansson in the Netflix film, Marriage Story to receive big recognition. This will be Adam Driver’s 3rd time hosting the comedic late night show following his 2016 and 2018 performances.

The announcement comes hot off the heels after some serious complaints to recent SNL host and long-time actor and SNL alumni Eddie Murphy from the shows previous and final episode of the 2019 year. This is in reference to a comment Murphy made about Bill Cosby during the show’s opening monologue. (seen here) In which Murphy states “If you told me 30 years ago that I would be boring stay at home house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail. Even I would have taken that bet. Who is Americas dad now.” While doing a Cosby impression. Cosby’s publist, Andrew Wyatt outraged by the comment turned to social media, describing Murphy as a “Hollywood slave”. saying a small part in an Instagram post: “It is sad that Mr. Murphy would take this glorious moment of returning to SNL and make disparaging remarks against Mr. Cosby. One would think that Mr. Murphy was given his freedom to leave the plantation, so that he could make his own decisions; but he decided to sell himself back to being a Hollywood Slave.”

The casting for future hosts and musical guests for upcoming shows for the 2020 year have also yet to be announced. Again, SNL is set to return on January 25th, 2020.
