ABC Picks Up Multi-Camera Comedy ‘FLOUIS’

ABC has picked up FLOUIS, a new mutli-camera comedy from Bonding actor Brendan Scannell and Amy Reed, who writes for Disney+’s upcoming series Diary of Female President as well as Hulu’s Crossing Swords. The pair co-wrote the new show, with Scannell projected to star. They will also serve as executive producers. Jeff Richman, executive producer for ABC’s Modern Family, is overseeing the project as yet another EP. The executive producer team is rounded out by Jason Winer (Modern FamilyArthur) and Jon Radler (Perfect HarmonyWoman Up)Per Deadline, the show has been given “a script commitment plus penalty” by the network.

The show will center on a mother and son. The former, named Faye Caldwell, has spent most of her life subsisting off of “sugar daddies,” that is, wealthy older men who she’s dated, in Las Vegas. Scannell is being considered for the role of the latter, named Louis. Louis is Faye’s codependent adult son. When Faye finds that she is no longer a hot commodity in the world of Las Vegas high rollers and cannot find a new sugar daddy, she moves with her son back to the fictional town of Basic, Indiana, where she grew up.

FLOUIS will join a slate that includes just one other multi-camera sitcom currently airing on ABC. At the moment, The Conners, a spinoff of Rosanne following its cancellation, is alone in representing the format. That show is currently in its second season.

In a tongue in cheek tweet, Scannell poked fun at the medium of the new project, joking, “Been saying for years that streaming is over and network multi-cam is the future!!!!!”

Reed also tweeted to exclaim that she is “Very excited about this!!!”

ABC has yet to release a timetable for FLOUIS’s release.
