‘A Million Little Things’ Picked Up for Full Season by ABC

ABC‘s freshman family-driven drama A Million Little Things, has been picked up for a full season despite it’s rookie status. A source from the network mentioned earlier today, an order will be put out for four additional episodes and will bring it’s first season run total to seventeen.

Although just debuting last month, the series remarkably had a strong premiere and pulled in 5.1 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating for the early screening. In the following weeks since its debut, the series has settled in at around 3.6 million viewership.

The series is set in modern-day Boston, and follows a tight-knit circle of childhood friends trying to deal with the aftermath of their close friend’s (Ron Livingston) suicide. A Million Little Things stars Romany Malco, James Roday, David Giuntoli as the three friends who decide to reevaluate their lives after the tragic event. Christina Ochoa, Stephanie Szostak (The Blacklist), Grace Park (Hawaii Five O) are apart of the supporting cast.

A Million Little Things is part of ABC’s attempt to solidify script orders for promising new shows; some in their freshmen and sophomore season, respectively. The network has ordered three additional scripts for shows such as The Rookie, The Kids Are Alright, and Splitting Up Together.

In contrast, it’s predecessor Designated Survivor also initially did well but was cancelled in May by ABC, before being brought back by Netflix as an original production. Which, possibly might spell the same fate for A Million Little Things own series’ run. But hopefully does well in it’s own right and allow it’s own stars to have another successfully syndication run on a prime time television network.

A Million Little Things currently airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC. Tvline first reported this story.
