A glimpse into Matthew Weiner’s ‘The Romanoffs’ on Amazon

Mad Men’s creator, Matthew Weiner, is set to return with a new TV series, The Romanoffs, on Amazon. It has been three years since our beloved Mad Men ended. When it was announced that Weiner would return with a new project, the die-hard fans were quick to send their blessings. Throughout the sexual misconduct allegations surrounding the TV showrunner, Weiner continued with the eight-episode production. The show has been hush-hush about its episodes; until recently, Amazon released a few pictures and a plot line. A glimpse into these pictures shows us just how interesting things can get.

You can find the pictures below.

The show’s story comes from the real-life saga of Tsar Nicholas II, a member of the Romanov family who was executed along with other remaining relatives. However, not everyone believed that all members were dead. They thought perhaps Nicholas’ daughter Anastasia was still alive, along with other members of the Romanov family. The series will revolve around different characters with one story in common for each episode – that they are all members of the Romanov family. Expect some scheming and over the top amount of antics.

Weiner created this to be an anthology series as a way to explore different outcomes which can lead to an expanded creativity clout. “I loved the idea both as a viewer and as a writer of being able to tell a story that really commits,” Weiner said. “I don’t mean that we didn’t do that on Mad Men or that you don’t do that on continuing series, but when the characters are not coming back the next week you have a chance to tell it in a different way — to resolve it.”

The Romanoffs will premiere with a special viewing of two episodes on October 12. Afterward, it will continue every Friday with one episode.
