’90s Show ‘Mad About You’ Possible Revival

NBC’s Mad About You might join the list of ’90s television shows revival. E! News asked Paul Reiser if he would be interested in a reboot, and he said that it is possible. Now on its own, this does not seem like it has too much backing; however, there are a couple of reasons why this might really happen.

First, Reiser usually says “no” about a revival/reboot for this show. Nevertheless, this time (most recently) when asked during the Fall he said, “The truth is now, as my kids are getting older. This is a very different point in life… It starts to feel, in a different way, like the 2.0 version of being married. Here’s another point in life we don’t know what the heck is going to happen…” There is the story right there, the 2.0 part of a married life.

Secondly, TVLine and Hollywood Reporter have multiple sources which say that Sony Pictures Television Studios have started informal talks about bringing back the show. No deals have been made as of yet, but by having talks this is a big step forward if the show is to make a come back. Sony did make an adaptation for Chinese audiences and a remake for Argentinian audiences as well.

If it were to come back it would be set in present day for Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. The story will probably be about the empty nest with Mabel’s (Jamie’s and Paul’s daughter) acceptance to college. Which connects to the 2.0 version of a married life that Reiser spoke about.

Mad About You was one of NBC’s most popular shows. It aired for seven seasons from 1992-1999. It was an Emmy nomination multiple times for best comedy and (won) best lead actress, as well as, the Golden Globe and Peabody Award.

There is a want for these reboots, which is why there are so many of these shows coming back and there are people and reporters that keep asking for it. There is an audience interested, the actors seem interested, and a studio (with background with the show) does seems interested.
