2016 Rio Olympics TV Schedule

Starting with the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, August 5, at 7 p.m. Eastern and culminating with the Closing Ceremonies on August 21, NBC will have broadcast 6,755 hours of programming in total for the 2016 Olympics. On television alone, 2,000 hours of events are expected to air on television, while an additional 4,500 hours will be streamed on the NBC website. Some of the events will air on NBC, and the others are to be shown on channels Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, MSNBC, NBC Sports Network, and in Spanish, NBC Universo and USA.

In an article in the Seattle Times, it was discussed that NBC is even slated to broadcast some events in virtual reality through the Samsung Gear VR headset, which is described as an “experimental” endeavor by an NBC executive producer.

Friday, August 5

Saturday, August 6

Archery, cycling, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. There will also be coverage of water polo, gymnastics, beach volleyball, soccer, field hockey, and volleyball.

Major Events:
Gymnastics, 1:30–4 p.m. — U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Qualifications
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay

Day 2: Sunday, August 7
Archery, cycling, diving, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of beach volleyball, volleyball, gymnastics, and soccer.

Gymnastics, 4:30–6 p.m. — U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Qualifications

Monday, August 8
Diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rugby, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of field hockey, water polo, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

Rugby, 6–6:30 p.m. — Women’s Final (This is the first time rugby sevens is a part of the Olympics)

Tuesday, August 9
Canoe/kayaking, diving, equestrian, fencing, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of volleyball, beach volleyball, and soccer.

Wednesday, August 10
