Review: ‘KAOS’, Season One, Episode Five, “The Three Acts of War”

Episode five of the Netflix series KAOS, shows the background of Prometheus’s plan to dethrone Zeus. His revolt goes back to ancient times when multiple gods aimed to end Zeus’s reign. Here, audiences see how the prophecy began, and how truly elaborate it is.

Cutting to the present, Zeus continues to rage on more violently than ever. In the human world, Ari wakes up to be surrounded by the Furies. The three gods force her to watch a revelation of her father and his secret prophecy, revealing that her father, President Minos, wanted her twin brother to be killed due his birthed prophecy that his first born will be the death of him. Ari investigates herself to find her brother is not dead, but instead condemned to be the Minotaur.

In Poseidon’s realm, audiences are revealed that he and Hera are having a frequent affair. Zeus eventually finds out, leading to the death of one of Hera’s sworn servants. Zeus’s reckless, impulsive actions continue to concern the gods, including Hera.

Riddy and Caeneus continue to explore the undergrowth of the underworld, surrounded by petrified souls. There, the two found Hades wandering and petrifying a lost, panicking soul. Riddy faints due to some unknown reaction her body had from encountering Hades.

This episode within the series further sets the stage for how each characters’ ’ plot is a part of Prometheus’s divine prophecy. Viewers were able to get a closer look at Ari and her family’s role in the story line while it was revealed that Riddy will have a role in changing the underworld. These interwoven plot threads are becoming more structured while providing depth to each character. Overall, the clarity of the series improves each episode. Its choice of framing the episodes into sections further aids in its structure, making it more digestible. Audiences view the series to become more intriguing as it goes on, although there is little progress made in each episode. Hopefully viewers will be given more pivotal moments in coming episodes to feed their interest.
