Review: ‘Beef Season 2, Episode 6 “Those Blue Remembered Hills”

Chairwoman Park and her colleague are eating fruit and a title card appears : One Month Later. They are talking about the death that Dr. Kim caused. He brings up Eunice and Woosh. While they don’t know anything, they could accidentally stumble on money transfers or text message exchanges. Chairwoman Park checks on both of them sleeping in their rooms; she knows that she has to get to work.

Josh and Lindsay are preparing their divorce paperwork, and things are surprisingly going smoothly. Lindsay then brings up Josh’s contract. If he were to take the job extension, that means more money and benefits. If Lindsay were to wait to divorce him, she would get more benefits versus if she divorced him right in the moment. Josh knows that she wants more. Lindsay goes to a child’s birthday party hosted by her colleague. She asks said colleague about hypothetical divorce situations, and who would get the higher up if their spouse had a certain amount of income. Later at work, Josh’s colleagues then tell him about Lindsay going around and asking those questions. Everyone puts two and two together that Josh and Lindsay are splitting, and Lindsay is trying to get more money. Josh is furious. He  presents her with new papers that Lindsay refuses to sign until he signs his contract extension. Josh takes this to their lawyers.

Austin and Ashley are going over their medical bills from Ashley’s hospital visit and they are  swarming with fees. Ashley freaks  out as she knows that they won’t be able to afford IVF down the line. Austin tells her to calm down and that maybe this is a sign that they should be waiting, which gets her upset.

At work, Austin grows closer to Eunice. He then tells her if  she ever needs anything at all to let him know. This visibly makes Eunice uncomfortable and she declines the offer, saying she’s just fine. Later, Josh tries to be friendly with Austin and ask him about all things relating to physical therapy. He even brings in future clients like Suni Lee! Austin is intimidated. He knows that they blackmailed for Ashley’s promotion, faked his PT certificate, and now he has to learn how to rehab an American athlete.

Lindsay finds Ashley around the club and immediately sees this as an opportunity to kiss up to her. Lindsay gives her a gold outfit and tells her about Troy’s wife, Ava, and how her cousin is one of the best fertility doctors ever. Ashley is overjoyed. When she brings this news up to Austin, he brings up again how they should take things slow. Ashley reassures him that she is sending people the Trochos packages to make some extra money. She also brings up how this is an opportunity that they can’t pass up as couples typically wait years to be seen by this doctor. Austin has a bad feeling about all of this regarding the financial aspects.

Josh and Austin get closer as they talk about jobs and relationships. Josh then asks if Austin can help him clean out his pool. Austin agrees and Josh apologizes that they all got off on the wrong foot. Austin accepts and agrees to put it in the past, but then he finds drugs buried at the bottom of the pool. Josh wants to have some fun. Austin pretends to take the drug while Josh goes into a euphoric episode. Josh then reveals to Austin that the reason why they’re being so  friendly is to get the backup videos from them and delete them once and for all. Josh becomes  vulnerable with Austin, telling  him about the divorce and life mistakes he’s made. Austin doesn’t know how to process all of this new information and asks him if he’s ever thought about another girl while with Lindsay. Josh knows that Austin is hiding something.

Lindsay and Ashley share a bottle of champagne on the sidewalk. They went golfing with Ava and Ashley made such a  good impression that she referred her to her cousin. The three of them plan to go to Korea so Ava can get that plastic surgery. They then talk about life, marriage, and the meaning of being lonely in life. Ashley finds Lindsay’s change of heart odd, but she takes it. Josh walks Austin out. As Austin gets back into his car, the woman from the previous episode approaches him and tells him that she saw this car driving by the house a month ago; the same month Burberry was killed.

Chairwoman Park and Woosh are sitting in her living room. She is getting ready for a night out and Woosh helps her with her necklace. Woosh then reveals that he knows about the murder, but hasn’t said anything. Chairwoman Park brings up the relationship between herself and Woosh’s father. Chairwoman Park is Woosh’s stepmother! Woosh thanks her for all she has done for him and for treating him as her own, even offering him a promotion. Woosh walks outside to his car and is struck and killed by a runaway driver. Cut to black.

This episode was all over the place with  many twists and turns. The ending was very dramatic as Woosh is killed. We know that Chairwoman Park had something to do with that due to the beginning of the episode, and we learned seconds before his death that she was his stepmother. This twist is able to work well as it was on the unexpected side. Josh, Lindsay, Austin, and Ashley are all in their own dynamics as both Josh and Lindsay had their own memorable monologues about life and their marriage. It was like the older couple was teaching the younger couple, which worked very well in this episode as this was more of a climatic point.
