‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Season Two Trailer Teases the Music Industry as a “Game of Chess”

Viewers will continue to follow the story of the Wu-Tang Clan next month as Hulu dropped the trailer for season two of Wu-Tang: An American Saga Saturday.

Set in the early 1990s during the height of the crack epidemic, Wu-Tang follows the formation of the legendary hip-hop group, the Wu-Tang Clan, through the vision of Bobby Diggs, aka RZA, played by Ashton Sanders (Judas and the Black Messiah). As the remaining members are Shameik Moore (The Get-Down) playing Raekwon, Sadiq Saunderson (Messiah) as Ghostface Killah, Julian Elijah Martinez (Elementary) as Divine, Marcus Callender (Power) as Power, rapper Dave East (Being Mary Jane) as Method Man, TJ Atoms (Power) as Ol’ Dirty Bastard, newcomer Johnell Xavier Young as GZA, and Joey Bada$$ (Grown-ish) recurring as Inspectah Deck.

The trailer opens with the iconic first line from “C.R.E.A.M.” (and a quote from the film Shaolin and Wu-Tang), “A game of chess is like a swordfight. You must think first before you move.” It then sets up the premise of the series as each member of the group struggles with crime, drugs, family, and poverty.

The tables turn when two of the founding members meet with a music executive who questions their group name, but then RZA counters it with money on the table. After introducing the members of Wu-Tang, the trailer shows a montage of what’s to come in season two with shots firing, live performances, and the group navigating the music industry. The trailer ends with RZA saying that Wu-Tang will change the entire industry before announcing the September 8 release date.

Wu-Tang: An American Saga season two will drop September 8, streaming exclusively on Hulu. Check out the trailer below.
