Writers Guild Awards TV 2017: ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Westworld’ Among Nominees

The 2017 Writers Guild Awards nominees have officially been announced; Stranger Things, AtlantaVeep, and Game of Thrones are on the list, among others.

NBC’s breakthrough series This Is Us earned a nom for the drama episode category and is also the only broadcast TV series in the new series category.

In the race for episodic comedy, Fox’s Son of Zorn, ABC’s Speechless, and Amazon’s One Mississippi earned noms in addition to Atlanta and other new shows.

Westworld and Stranger Things both earned noms for drama series, along with The Americans, Better Call Saul, and Game of Thrones. Atlanta was the only newbie to earn a comedy series nom, competing with Amazon’s Transparent, Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and HBO’s Silicon Valley, and Veep, the reigning champion in comedy across many award shows.

This time around, FX’s “Better Things” found its way into the new series nominees circle alongside Atlanta, Stranger Things, Westworld and This Is Us.

Series from HBO, FX, Netflix, and AMC, unsurprisingly, dominate the nominations; HBO has eight programs in the race while FX has five.

Netflix’s BoJack Horseman was nominated twice for animation, alongside The Simpsons and Disney Channel’s Elena of Avalor and Star Wars Rebels.

The ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 19 of 2017 to honor the winners. Here is the full list of nominees:
