Writer Matthew Chauncey Hired For Season Three Of ‘X-Men ’97’

According to Deadline, Matthew Chauncey (What If…?, Thor: Love and Thunder) has been chosen to write season three of X-Men ’97. As reported earlier by mxdwn.com, the original creator of X-Men ‘97 was Beau DeMayo (The Witcher, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), who finished work on seasons one and two before leaving the series and parting ways with Marvel. This departure took place earlier this year, just before the season premiere on March 20. Now, Marvel has found their replacement, DeMayo, for the reboot of the 90’s animated series.

As reported by Deadline, Chauncey will collaborate with X-Men ‘97 director Jake Castorena (Star Trek: Prodigy, The Lego Batman Movie), who has been part of the animated sequel since the beginning. Larry Houston (Fat Dog Mendoza, G.I. Joe), Eric Lewald (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Exosquad) and Julia Lewald (Robocop: Alpha Commando, Young Hercules), who were executive producers of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, will continue as consulting producers. Season two of the revival, with revised scripts, is currently in production, while work on season three is underway.

Marvel Animation’s superhero series takes us back to the classic 1990s. The X-Men is a team of mutants with extraordinary powers who defend a world that despises them. Throughout the show, the X-Men are up against new and unforeseen challenges.

According to Deadline, the revival received critical acclaim and impressive ratings, garnering 4 million views for its first two episodes within five days on Disney+. Season one concluded on a high, with the finale attracting 3.5 million views in its initial five days. This marks the show as Disney+’s most-watched full-length animated series finale since the first season of What If…?

X-Men ’97‘s voice cast features Ray Chase (Jujutsu Kaisen, Pokémon) as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale (Ralph Breaks the Internet, Velma) as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith (X-Men: The Animated Series, My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale) as Storm, Cal Dodd (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Spider-Man: The Animated Series) as Wolverine, Holly Chou (The Big Sick, Blue Eye Samurai) as Jubilee and more.
