Who’s Who of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

News has been trickling out regarding the casting and production of the several-times-delayed Star Trek: Discovery which is much anticipated to air on CBS All Access late summer or early fall. Here’s the full list of what we know so far about the cast and their characters:

Sonequa Martin-Green (previously Sasha on The Walking Dead) will play Michael Burnham: first officer of the USS Discovery. Michael Burnham is unique as a Star Trek protagonist because she is a first officer rather than a captain. The character is referred to as “Number One” in honor of the same character in the original Star Trek pilot.

Jason Isaacs (you may know him as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter) has been cast as Captain Lorca: captain of the starship USS Discovery and opposite Sonequa Martin-Green.

Michelle Yeoh is cast as Georgiou (previously Han Bo): Captain of the new starship USS Shenzhou.

Terry Serpico is cast Anderson: a Starfleet admiral.

Maulik Pancholy is Nambue: Chief Medical Officer of the USS Shenzhou.

Sam Vartholomeos will play Connor: a junior officer on the USS Shenzhou.

James Frain is Sarek: a Vulcan astrophysicist and Spock’s father. He will be a younger version of the same character in the original Star Trek series.

Doug Jones will play Saru: a science officer and lieutenant on the USS Discovery. Saru is a species of alien new to the Star Trek universe and unique to the Discovery show.

Anthony Rapp as Stamets: a science officer who specializes in the ever-important study of space fungi (astromycology).

Chris Obi as T’Kuvma: a Klingon leader who has inspired several rumors of a Klingon king, though he may simply become chancellor or emperor of the Klingon houses he wishes to unite.

Shazad Latif will play Kol: a commanding officer of the Klingons, and an apprentice to T’Kuvma.

Mary Chieffo is cast as L’Rell: Battle Deck Commander of the Klingon ship.

Mary Wiseman will play Tilly: a cadet graduating from Starfleet Academy who is then assigned to board the Discovery.

Rainn Wilson was recently cast as Harry Mudd: Mudd is a charismatic con-man who is a younger version of a similar character played by Roger C. Carmel in the original Star Trek.

According to Gizmodo, veteran Star Trek actor Michael Dorn (Lietenant Worf) was offered a role in the new series playing his character’s ancestor (also called Worf). However the compensation he was offered was far less than his last contract portraying Worf and he turned down the role.

Barring any further delays, Star Trek: Discovery should reach the air this summer, or early next fall.
