According to Deadline, The Writers Guild of America is scheduled to meet again with The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers next week. This is after four days of bargaining with them. On Friday WGA West had issued a Call to Action which stated that the media consolidation is one of the leading causes of the strike. They are urging their members to file a public comment with the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice as a way to gain support for the proposed revision to the Merger Guidelines.
“Last Friday, 102 days after they walked away from the bargaining table and put us out on strike, the AMPTP offered responses to our proposals in all work areas,” the guild has stated this in a communique with members. “We met this week and continued to exchange proposals. We will continue to meet next week.
The WGA continues to say, “Thank you for the many messages of support and solidarity as we talk with the AMPTP. As always, be skeptical of rumors from third parties, knowing that the Guild will communicate when we think there is something of significance to report.”
According to Deadline, the WGA issue the Call to Action after the guild released report that called for more government regulation of what it calls the anti-competitive practices of Disney, Amazon, and Netflix. The guild accuses these companies of abusing their dominance to further disadvantage competitors, raising the monthly prices for consumers, and even pushing down wages for the creative workforce.
The Writers Guild of America strike commenced earlier this year on May second. The Screen Actors Guild- American Federation of Television and Radio Artists or SAG-AFTRA has also been on strike since July 14th.
Down below are the last updated negotiations between WGA and AMPTP from August 11th.
