Disney+ Reveals Teaser and Release Date For ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’

The upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on the novel of the same name by author Rick Riordan (The Sun and the Star, The Lost Hero). According to the official press release, Disney+ has revealed both a teaser as well as the release date for the series. The series is set to debut its first two episodes on December 20th. After the premiere, a new episode will air each week.

Along with this release date, a thirty-second teaser trailer has been released. According to TVLine, the teaser also reveals that WWE wrestler Adam Copeland, nicknamed Edge, stars in the series. Edge is revealed to play Ares, who is the god of war according to Greek mythology.

As TVLine notes, the synopsis of the series states, “‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.”

Stars of the upcoming series include Walker Scobell (Secret Headquarters, The Adam Project) as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries (Beast, Rel) as Annabeth Chase, Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen, Spin) as Grover Underwood, Lin Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), Toby Stephens (Jane Eyre, Black Sails) as Poseiden, Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth, The League) as Dionysus, and more.

The official press release notes that Jon Steinberg (The Old Man, Jericho) and Dan Shotz (National Treasure, Jericho) serve as the showrunners of the show. Rick Riordan worked alongside Steinberg and Shotz in order to ensure that the television series aligned with his vision presented through his novels.

Fans of the Percy Jackson franchise can look forward to their favorite characters coming to life on December 20th in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
