While the original 1997 film is known for its stellar ensemble cast (including actors Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger), the big question surrounding CBS’ television reboot of L.A. Confidential is if the network will be able to attract its own group of talent. According to Deadline, CBS is one step closer to achieving this feat.
Walter Goggins, known for his roles on television shows like Justified and Vice Principals as well as films like The Hateful Eight and Lincoln, has signed on to star as one of the leads for CBS’ L.A. Confidential. Goggins is reportedly set to play Jack Vincennes, the detective played by Kevin Spacey in the original film.
Before L.A. Confidential was adapted for the big screen in 1997, it was first a novel, written by James Ellroy. The story explores justice and corruption in 1950s Los Angeles, following three detectives as they each investigate a series of killings through their own various means. The film was extremely well-received upon its release in 1997 and garnered 9 Academy Award nominations, going on to win two.
The CBS series will be written and executive produced by Jordan Harper. Arnon Milchan will also serve as executive producer on the project. Anna Fricke (Valor, Wayward Pines) has been chosen as the drama’s showrunner.
L.A. Confidential was among group of four dramas CBS announced for its 2018 television lineup. The others, titled Red Line, The Code, and Main Justice, are all crime-based stories exploring the American justice system through different perspectives.
